COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA — The 35th Annual Fort Clifton Arts, Music and Craft Festival will be held on May 8-9, 2010 at Berberich Park site. Fort Clifton is located behind Tussing Elementary that is located at 5501 Conduit Road on Brockwell Lane. The Fort Clifton Festival began in May of 1976 as part of the Bicentennial celebration and has now become an annual event, held on Mother's Day weekend. The festival is family-oriented and educational, and portrays the historic significance of the fort and its importance in the civil war to the Petersburg defense line. Berberich Park now encompasses the site of Fort Clifton where Confederate forces fended off various land and river attacks during May, 1864. Fort Clifton is listed on the Virginia Landmarks Register and was named to the National Register of Historic Places by the Virginia Research Center for Archaeology. The festival will feature 100 high quality fine arts and crafts exhibitors, 10 civil war exhibitors, encampments and living history. Civil War re-enactors will also be on hand with lectures, drills, and camp demonstrations.There will also be activities for children, such as pony rides and a petting zoo as well as musical entertainment.

Guests will save with free parking and free admission. Hours will be 10:30am-5:30pm on Saturday and 12:30-5:30pm on Sunday. Festival sponsors are Colonial Heights Historical Society, Colonial Heights Recreation & Parks Department, and Colonial Heights Chamber of Commerce.
